Brief History

The International Pontifical Congregation of the Little Sisters of Jesus came to India in 1952 and to Malankara Archdiocese, Trivandrum in 1954. Founded by Little Sr. Megdeleine of Jesus in 1939 in Algeria. They live the charism and mission inspired by the spirituality of Little Brother Charles of Jesus, 1858-1916(Blessed Charles de Foucauld).

That is the very simple life of prayer, work, friendship by following the model of Jesus at Nazareth. They mean to share the life of people in their neighborhood, their joys and sorrows, their hopes and struggles with a preferential love and respect for the poorest and marginalized. They don't take charge of any Institution or organized apostolate; they try to be presence of contemplative prayer and of solidarity with people beyond all barriers of races, creeds, castes and social class.

In 1954-1958 few English and French Sisters lived in Trivandrum town. In 1964-1975 on the Interaction of Most Rev. Benedict Mar Gregorios, who obtained visas for them, three French Sisters joined in the work done at St. John's Hospital, Pirappancode for the detection, treatment and rehabilitation of Leprosy patients in Trivandrum District.

In 1987 onwards Little Sr. Mary Susheela and Little Sr. Mariarmel have been at the service of the patients in different areas employed by St. John's Leprosy Control Programme Project. Little Sr. Rosa worked for 6 years at the Nature Cure Bethany Centre, Nalanchira. Many Sisters came for shorter periods.
